Not a lot to report on today. I walked home from work yesterday. I made chai. I had lentils and rice while I made the chai—a small bowl with no accompanying bread, in an effort to cut back on calories. Then I sat in the living room with Shobhit while he attended a virtual Braeburn Condos board meeting, which was two hours largely dominated by discussion of building security.
Then we watched two episodes of the UK version of
Being Human. Suddenly, the quality of the show went way up. These were the best episodes thus far, the final two episodes of season two. It made me look forward to season 3 in a way I had not looked forward to season 2.

Every since the
Overlook Walk opened last October, I have taken to a new, default route to work every morning: I catch the bus from my building straight down Pine to 3rd, then, instead of walking through Pike Place Market and then up Elliott Avenue as I used to, I cut through Pike Place Market to walk over the Overlook Walk and down to the waterfront, which I then walk the rest of the way to work, cutting through the Olympic Sculpture Park near the end of the route when it's open. It's far more scenic and pretty, which makes it worth adding roughly an extra block to the amount I walk. I do try to make sure I get on the 6:44 a.m. bus rather than the 6:54 a.m. one, though, to help account for the slightly extra walking.
Unfortunately, both because the 6:44 bus left a minute early (I really hate that shit) and because I detoured to take a compostable PCC container to the compost bins on my way downstairs, I missed that bus. Instead of waiting 10 minutes, I walked to the Capitol Hill Light Rail Station and caught the train the rest of the way, which only barely got me down to 3rd & Pine before the next bus would have. I checked One Bus Away while walking out of Westlake Station (you don't save as much time riding only one station on Light Rail when you account the amount of walking in and out of those giant stations), and it said the #24 was coming in one minute. I waited at the stop for like three minutes, only to see the app refresh and say the bus had already left . . . one minute early. Goodammit!
I was going to catch the bus only because it was so fucking cold this morning—26°. But at this point I thought, fuck it, I'll just walk. I headed the few blocks west on Pine and the #12 I could have just waited for passed me. I mean, I was still maybe two minutes ahead of where I'd have been had I waited but whatever.
Anyway! It was a beautiful morning, freezing weather notwithstanding. The view of the Olympic Mountains from the waterfront was stunning. I stupidly thought I would wait until I got to the office to take a photo, only to be reminded once I got here that a bunch of trees in Myrtle Edwards Park obstruct the view from this angle. So instead I found older photos I've taken to use in this post, in which the Olympic Mountains could be seen—evem though they have much more snow tha usual on them right now, and the view today was better than in any of these photos. Oh well.
This is one thing I will miss when we move to the new office location this summer, though. And it's why I walk up the waterfront as often as I can.
