lights in mist

Check out this photo of Bobby Morris Playfield, which I took from just up the tiny hill from there, closer to the reservoir at Cal Anderson Park, on Sunday night, on my way back from the Light Rail station (I opted not to walk the entire way home after walking downtown to meet up with Gabriel and Lea).

This is actually doctored slightly, from the original shot, which I posted to my socials that same night. I just thought it made a very cool photo, though I wasn't sure how much others would agree. They seemed to, though: that post has 8 likes and 7 comments, actually kind of high for me.

In thos comments, though, Laney noted how cool it would look if someone could PhotoShop out the lampposts to make it look like alien spacecraft hovering over the playfield. So: last night, I did exactly that, using the "Pixlr" program online, which has new AI tools that make it very easy to remove objects from a photo. It's not totally seamless, but certainly good enough at first glance.

So: Laney responded to that, that I could post it to the Capitol Hill Facebook page "and freak people out." So: I also did that. (That is a private group, though, so that link will only work for you if you are also in the Facebook group.) The slightly altered photo has really taken off there, 12 comments and 68 likes and counting, as of my writing this.

There's not much more for me to share today, really. I walked home from work yesterday, and had a quiet evening at home alone—as I expect to again this evening, the second of three such evenings I expect to have this week, as I have no plans (currently) Friday either. I have our first Action Movie Night in a month tomorrow (because two Wednesdays ago was Christmas Day); a movie with Laney Thursday evening; then a movie and Happy Hour with Laney on Saturday. I have an idea for Sunday but it's totally up in the air whether it will pan out.

Anyway, I made myself an incredible grilled cheese sandich for dinner last night, with sauteed vegetables and sliced fresh tomato added. I've really taken to using the cast iron grill just as Shobhit had; it's so much better than regular pans. I made myself chai to go with it, and had all that while catching up on the last two episodes of Skeleton Crew on Disney+, which were . . . okay.

After that, I went to the bedroom because my battery was about to die on the MacBook laptop so I plugged it in to charge. I then watched the Joe Mande standup special on Hulu, which was pretty funny.

I did very little else, really. Aside from read texts on the group chat about Gabriel taking a moral stance about Facebook, Instagram and Threads, jumping ship and deleting his accounts across all of them, because of the news that UFC president and ultra-Trumper Dana White has joined the board at Meta; today's news that Meta is scrapping their fact checking program only further justified the action.

Here's my take: these sites aren't that different now that these changes have been made than they already were. Any argument for abandoning them now existed before, really; they're all horrible. But, for now at least, they remain the best way for me to keep up with family and friends I never actually pick up the phone and call. I suppose you could argue that there's thus no great reason to stay connected with them anyway, but I'd still prefer not to have to get a life status update on the entire past six months or year only when I see certain people at family holiday gatherings.
