walking and planning

Shobhit managed to get himself another Social Review point yesterday, by taking a walk with me: he walked a long route downtown, along the waterfront, and then to my building to meet me at work when I left at 4:30. Then we walked home together.

I made chai. We watched the cliffhanger episode 7 of season two of Squid Game. I had not realized it was getting a long season and Netflix was splitting it up, part of their annoying release strategy.

After that, I wound up staying up a lot later than intended, the second evening in a row, because we ended up booking our Victoria Clipper tickets for December 22 and 23. Laney booked hers this morning.

We also spent a lot of time researching what hotel to book. I exchanged a lot of emails with Laney, until she went to bed and we had to pick up the conversation over text this morning. Shobhit and I have booked a hotel room now, and I'm hoping to book a second room using my Hotels.com account so we can get Laney a discounted rate for her room. I'm running into trouble at the moment, the website keeps saying things are busy and the rooms are no longer available, no matter which room I select. Annoying.

Anyway, I finally got to bed around 11:30, right after Shobhit booked his and my tickets on the Clipper. This will be my first time on the Clipper since I rode it with Barbara in 2000. 25 years ago! I think that was the only time I ever took the Clipper, actually. I worked at the Seattle Gay News then and was writing a travel story so I got free tickets. Not so lucky this time, but that's okay: booking by February 12 gets us a 20% early bird discount.

I just finished with my biweekly Zoom lunch with Karen. It was a lively one-hour discussion as always, starting with me telling her about the newly formed Victoria plans (amusingly, a one-night trip now booked for nearly a year in the future—not that that isn't totally on-brand for me), and moving on to updates about her and Dave's house being built in Tulalip. Apparently the construction, finally, might actually be done by the end of February. Getting the septic tank in recently has been huge news—they can flush a toilet, woohoo!

I really look forward to being able to go and check out that house sometime in the next several months.

She also filled me in on her health situation, which is going well. She's not quite back to work yet and she's temporarily having to wear a heart monitor on her chest, until the end of next week.

She also shared how dispirited she is about the political situation in our country right now, what I would (and always will) characterize as the Second President Fuckwit Administration. I can't engage with it too much or it will make me crazy. We'll see how things go as the months and years roll on, but it's unreal to be having our country run by a bunch of loser dipshits. How anyone can support them remains beyond my comprehension, except to think half this country simply has no moral compass whatsoever, let alone capacity for empathy.

Anyway! See? I don't want to get too bogged down by that shit. I need to post this and get on with the rest of my afternoon!
